National Institute of Technology 

National Institute of Technology, previously known as Karnataka Regional Engineering College, was established in 1960. The functionalities of NITK are as per the rules of the NIT Act of 2007 and are stipulated by the Government of India gradually. The Board of Governors, the State Government, and the Government of India manage this Institute. 

NITK offers B.Tech in 11 specializations and M.Tech in 28 specializations with 270 highly-qualified faculty distributed over 10 supporting centers. Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering 

Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering is an autonomous institute established in 2007. It has been ten years now that the renowned University Grants Commission has conferred this 26-year-old institute the “Autonomous Status” giving it the liberty to widen its curriculum with flexible academic research.

MITE has received all the recognition that a top institute should acquire. They’ve got recognition from the AICTE, UGC, and the Government of Karnataka, and are accredited by an “A+” grade by NAAC. Moreover, MITE is ranked by NIRF between 151-300 under the Innovation Band. The college offers 9 UG Engineering, 1 PG Engineering, and 7 Research Programs. NITTE, Mangalore

Nitte Institute of Technology, Mangalore was established in 1986. Since 2022, the college has been a constituent of Nitte (Deemed-to-be-University). It is not only recognized by the All India Council of Technical Education but also regarded under the “Platinum” category by the AICTE-CII survey because of its high industry linkages.

Bhandari Foundation established the Sahyadri College of Engineering in 2007. St. Joseph Engineering College

The last one on our list is St. Joseph Engineering College. This distinguished institution was established in 2002 under the Diocese of Mangalore, Social Action Department. Admission Procedure

This is the most important part of my article as I have encountered many students getting confused and making silly mistakes during their admissions. Before getting started with your admission, you need to clear out your basics first, and that is choosing your stream. This is important because there are a lot of specializations in B.Tech and candidates tend to choose the wrong stream during the option entry. Know about the detailed admission procedure below!

Step 1: Target your College

Before starting with your admissions, you should prioritize and go through the colleges in your locality or your list. To choose an appropriate college, you can check the college fees and their placement scenario. This way, you’ll get an idea of the return on investment you will get after your graduation. 

Step 2: Check Eligibility Criteria

In this process, you need to go through all these college websites and check the eligibility criteria required for each college. Also, check which entrance exams the college accepts. I will share the eligibility criteria for UG and PG admission shortly, but it is still advisable to check each college’s website for proper clarity on eligibility criteria.

Step 3: Attend Entrance Examination

The best and most feasible way to get admission to any engineering college is through a competitive entrance examination. There are 3 different entrance examinations for engineering admission at any college. I will explain each entrance exam in detail further in the article.

Step 4: Fill out the Admission Process

Once you check the eligibility criteria, the college website will also have a tab for the application form. Fill out the application form with your details. This will let the college know about your details.

Step 5: Document Verification

Once the entrance test results are out, you will be called for the counseling process. But before counseling, you’ll have to register and verify your documents. Without document verification, your counseling process will not go further so do not skip this process.

Step 5: Choice Filling

Go to the official website of your examination authority and log in with your credentials. Based on your rank and your target college, select the colleges accordingly.  

Step 6: Seat Allotment

They will release the list of selected students according to your rank and choice filling. If you don’t get selected in the first round of allotment, you will still have a chance in the second round. Go through the same process from Step 5 for the Second Round of Allotment.

Entrance Examination

For Engineering Colleges in Karnataka, aspiring students have 3 prominent examinations and each has their pros and cons. Here are the entrance examinations required to enroll at top engineering colleges in Mangalore.

• JEE Mains

JEE Mains is regarded as the nationally recognized examination conducted by the National Testing Agency. Although it’s not specific to Karnataka, it’s a significant consideration for many students in the state aspiring to pursue engineering at the national level.

• CET (Common Entrance Test)

The CET examination is restricted to Karnataka candidates only. Organized by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), it is the most preferred examination for UG engineering courses. Both government and private colleges in the state recognize CET as the gateway to their programs. 

• COMEDK

The COMEDK examination is specifically tailored for admission into private engineering colleges in Karnataka. So, if you’re looking for any of the top 5 Engineering Colleges I mentioned above, I suggest you go for the COMEDK examination. The examination pattern consists of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, featuring a total of 180 multiple-choice questions.

Eligibility Criteria for B.Tech

• You should have finished with your 10+2 examinations.
• In your 10+2 examinations, Physics and Maths should be there as mandatory subjects, and Chemistry/Biology as the third subject, and you need to pass those subjects.
• General category candidates must have qualified with a minimum aggregate of 45% in their 12th examination.
• Reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC) need to secure a minimum of 40% aggregate marks in their 12th examination.
• Apply and qualify for the Entrance Examination (KCET/JEE/COMEDK) required for your preferred college.
