Karnataka MBBS Admission for Other States in 2024

Did you know that more than 50% of students who are studying in the medical colleges in Karnataka are from other states?

Yes, it’s true!

But in the past few years, especially after the centralized counseling system was introduced for admission, students from Northern states have drastically come down. This is because of the lengthy procedures for admission and counseling.

But in reality, you can easily secure an MBBS seat in Karnataka if you have proper guidance about the admission and counseling procedures. 😀

I get a lot of inquiries from students from other states for MBBS admission in Karnataka, but they are unaware of the procedures.

So, I thought I would write a detailed article that will help all the students who are looking for MBBS admission in Karnataka but are from other states.

Before I start, let me introduce myself >

I am Sidharth PS, a career blogger and educational consultant with more than 17 years of experience in the field of career guidance and college admissions. I will explain to you everything you want to know about Karnataka MBBS admission for other states. 😀

Please Note: This article will be a little lengthy, as I wanted to include all the information which will help you. You can use the table of contents below to navigate through the article easily.

Eligibility Criteria for MBBS Admission in Karnataka for Other States

The basic eligibility criteria for all the students are:

  • Students must qualify for the NEET UG entrance exam.
  • The student must score at least 50% in 12th standard in aggregate and PCB separately.
  • The candidate must be at least 17 years of age by 31st December of the year of taking admission.

These are the basic eligibility criteria for all the students who want to take MBBS admission in Karnataka.

But, there is a small problem with this.

The minimum qualifying marks for NEET is 50 percentile for the General Category and 40 percentile for OBC and Other categories, right? But all the students from other states will be considered as General Category in Karnataka.

For example, you come under the OBC/SC/ST category and you scored 40 percentile and you are qualified now. But you are not eligible to take admission in Karnataka until and unless you have 50 percentile. This applies only to students from other states.

There might be many people who claim to provide you seat under these circumstances too. However, the seat will remain invalid as it is a centralized system.

If you are in this scenario, then the only options left are:

  • To apply for colleges in your state.
  • Apply to deemed universities.
  • Apply in states that accept students from other states as other categories.

If you are in this scenario, then you can contact me at +91-7907887585 and I will guide you accordingly.

I guess, it’s clear for you!

The admission procedures for KEA and MCC are almost similar and I will be explaining about it here.

There are 8 steps in the counseling procedure and they are:

  1. Registration.
  2. Security fee payment.
  3. Document Verification.
  4. 1st Round of Counseling.
  5. 2nd ROund of Counseling.
  6. MOP-UP Round.
  7. Stray Vacancy Round.
  8. Reporting & Fee payment.

So I will be explaining about each step involved in the counseling procedure.

Step 1: Registration

The KEA or MCC will notify through their website and newspapers when they open the registration. The candidates have to go to their respective official websites and register. There will be a registration charge, for KEA it will be Rs.2000 and for MCC it will be Rs.5000.

Step 2: Security Fee Payment

In KEA, they might or might not ask for security fees in the in the 1st round of counseling. It completely depends on the authority.

But, in MCC you must pay Rs.2 lakhs as security fees which will be refunded on certain terms. If you have been allotted a seat and you join the college, then it will be refunded. If you have been allotted a seat and you rejected the seat after the 2nd round of counseling it will be forfeited.

Step 3: Document Verification

For the MCC counseling, you can upload the documents and they will be verified online. But generally for KEA, you have to attend the counseling physically.

There are rumors that the KEA might convert it to an online procedure in 2024. For both the counseling you must have the following documents ready:

  • 10th and 12th marks card.
  • 10th and 12th pass certificate.
  • Migration Certificate.
  • RGUHS Eligibility Certificate.
  • Transfer Certificate.
  • Conduct Certificate.
  • Aadhar Card.
  • Passport Size photo – 10 nos.

Apart from these, there are a few affidavits that you must attach with the documents during verification. After document verification, you will be provided with a verification slip, which will have the login credentials like Secret Key and Login ID.

If you need the detailed list, then you can read my article about documents required for MBBS admission.

Step 4 & 5: Online Counseling

Using the registration details you have to log in to the portal and attend the counseling.

This means you have to log in and choose the college of your choice. This is called Choice Filling. After you have selected the choice of college, you have to lock the choices. This is called Choice Locking.

After locking the choice you won’t be able to change the choices of colleges. After a few days, they will release the result. If you have been allotted a college, then you must download the admission order and then report to the college with original documents and fees.

If you have not been allotted any seats in the 1st and 2nd rounds, then you can attend the MOP-UP round.

Step 6 & 7: MOP-UP & Stray Vacancy

If you have not been allotted any seats in the 1st and 2nd rounds, then you can attend the MOP-UP round. The leftover seats will be shown in the portal and you can choose them.

The MOP-UP and Stray Vacancy Round are almost similar.

Step 8: Reporting & Fees Payment

In any of the rounds if you have been allotted a seat, then you have to report to the KEA office in Bangalore and pay the balance fees, and submit the original documents.

Once you submit the fees and original documents you will receive a receipt from the KEA. With the receipt, you will have to report to the allotted college on the date mentioned in the receipt.

Fee Structure for MBBS in Karnataka for Other State Students

There are 4 types of seats in Karnataka through KEA and they are:

  • G-Quota -Government Quota – Only for Karnataka domicile students.
  • P-Quota – Private Quota.
  • Q-Quota – Management Quota.
  • NRI-Quota – NRI Students.

Apart from G-Quota seats students from other states can apply for all other quotas. To secure P-Quota seats, you must have an excellent NEET rank as it is the cheapest one.

I have mentioned the P-Quota and Q/NRI quota fees below.

If you are looking for detailed information about fee structure, then you can read my detailed blog about management quota fees for MBBS in Karnataka.

There are more than 40 medical colleges in Karnataka and it’s not practically possible for you to know about each college. You might have heard of the best medical colleges like Manipal or Ramaiah, right? But you won’t be able to secure seats there because of budget constraints or a lesser NEET score.

But I am aware of all the colleges and I can guide you in choosing the best college in your budget. There are a few hidden gems like medical colleges in Karnataka which students are not aware of.

In short, I will guide you through the complete college selection procedures. Once I have shortlisted the colleges for you, you have to attend the counseling.

Competitive Fees

There are a few colleges where I can try to reduce the fee structure depending on the academic performance of the student. For example, the fees through counseling might be Rs.20 lakhs per year, but I can try to have a word with the management and recommend reducing your fees to an extent.

This completely depends on the student’s academic credits and demand.

As you know the counseling and documentation procedures in Karnataka are a little bit confusing, I will guide you through the complete procedures – starting from registration to allotment of seats.
